Diamond Sturgeon

The diamond sturgeon, also called Russian sturgeon or Danube sturgeon, is one of the real eye-catchers in our ponds.

This impressive powerhouse can grow up to two metres long (the largest in our garden is only 120 cm) and is easily recognisable by its blunt nose and the row of beautiful "diamonds" along its flanks.

Especially in summer, it curiously approaches the water surface, although it mainly looks for its food on the bottom or in the middle of the water, just like other members of the Acipenser family (e.g. the Baerri sturgeon). So you never know exactly where it will turn up... which only adds to the surprise!

Anyone who hooks a diamond sturgeon can get ready for an adventure. These strong fish don't give up easily and provide a drill that automatically gives you a broad smile.

The best way to entice them?
Keep it simple: fish on the bottom with pellets or strong-smelling bait, sour herring is also a real classic with this sturgeon species.
