Siberian smooth-bellied sturgeon
The Siberian smooth-bellied sturgeon also known as the Acipenser baerii.
The Baerri sturgeon can reach a length of up to 200 cm.
Characteristic features of this fish are the bony plates that have the same colour as the rest of its body, which is a difference from other sturgeons, another feature is the long pointed snout.
Siberian smooth-bellied sturgeons are very active fish. They swim both on the bottom of the fishpond and at the water's surface, but baiting happens almost exclusively on the bottom. In the caviar world, this sturgeon species is very popular, as caviar is made from its eggs.
At Fish Fun Vrouwenpolder, this sturgeon is often best caught on pellets, herring or cheese. It helps to make a small feeding spot with pellets, about 2 to 3 metres from the shore. That way, you attract the fish to a fixed spot and increase your chances of a take.
